A restaurant in Murrells Inlet is serving up more than sandwiches, seafood, and steaks. American Steak and Oyster Bar is providing a ‘Positively Carolina’ dining experience for the customer and community.
“I think it makes everybody start to remember what we should be doing,“ said Michelle Rosen, owner of American Steak and Oyster Bar. “We’re all very fortunate, and to give to different charities is a great thing. I think it makes everybody feel good too.“
Silver dollars aren’t silver anymore, but to charities up and down the Grand Strand they’re worth more than gold.
“The silver dollar is a gift from us at the restaurant to the patrons that come in,“ said Rosen. “And it’s a donation that they can give back to the community.“
At the end of the meal at American Steak and Oyster Bar, the bill doesn’t come with an after dinner mint, but a dollar coin to donate to one of six charities in mini banks in the front lobby.
“Majority of people are really excited about it,“ said Rosen, “and they’ve giving more money than just the dollar.“
Not everyone is giving more than a dollar. Some folks seem to have a heart colder than the ice under the oysters, and keep the coin.
“A couple people don’t always put them in,“ said Rosen, “but if that’s the case that’s what it is.“
“Our premise is good food, great value, and giving back to the community,“ said Rosen. “We’re excited, it’s fun to come in everyday and meet everybody that’s coming in.“
Friday American Steak and Oyster Bar is having their grand opening and ribbon cutting. During the celebration they’re going to be donating the money collected so far to the six area charities they support. The party starts at 3 p.m. and everyone of every age is invited. They’re on Business 17 in Murrells Inlet.
