MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A motorcyclist on a reportedly stolen motorcycle died after he sped away from officers and crashed, according to Myrtle Beach Police.
In a press release, the department said officers stopped a motorcycle at around 2:27 a.m. Friday in the area of 8th Ave. N. and Ocean Blvd. During the stop, an officer learned the motorcycle was listed as stolen in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database. The driver of the motorcycle drove off “at a high rate of speed” and hit a curb according to the press release.
The motorcycle driver was taken to an area hospital and was pronounced dead.
Horry County Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden identified the driver as 24-year-old Keith Robinson of Lexington Park MD.
Officers were not pursuing the motorcycle at the time it crashed, the release said.
South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
