Whether it’s catching a thief in the act or keeping a closer eye on children, local security companies say business is booming and it’s thanks to Horry County homeowners.
Workers at Premier Sound Satellite & Security say they’ve especially noticed an increase with winter birds.
“With all the people traveling from North to South they live half the year up there, they want to know whats going on around their neighborhoods and their home with all the thieves now a days.” said employee, Lorraine Richter.
Richter says recently several homeowners in the Grande Dunes community were able to collectively hand over footage to police of theft happening throughout the neighborhood, which led to an arrest.
“There was a gentleman stealing things and even going into peoples homes and police was able to utilize our cameras, and all the video.” said Richter.
Captain John Harrelson with the Horry County Police Department says just in the last six months, the department has noticed an increase of people who have been able to provide footage while filing a report.
He says the incidents have ranged from violent crimes, package thieves, to missing person cases.
“There’s a lot of variables, the angle of the camera, the quality of the camera, but anything is better than nothing. ” said Harrelson.
