MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) -Local law enforcement responded to the Peter Vaught Sr. boat landing Tuesday morning after a body was located in the area.

In a press release, Myrtle Beach police spokesman Cpl. Thomas Vest identified the deceased as 67-year-old James McIntyre.

Police say the man’s family called 911 late Monday after he didn’t return from a fishing trip. An incident report notes that McIntyre left around 10 a.m. in his white Ford Ranger vehicle and his boat from the Captains Quarters and no one had heard from him since.

When investigators conducted an emergency ping on McIntyre’s phone, the phone last pinged in the area of Kings Road in Horry County near Tanger Outlets. County officers responded to Peter Vaught Boat landing, and located the white Ford Ranger vehicle.

“The investigation is ongoing, however there is no foul play suspected at this time,” Vest also said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time. Thank you to our law enforcement partners for their assistance in this investigation.”

Though the body was technically found in the county, Myrtle Beach police are handling the investigation, Cpl. Vest said.

“Through the combined efforts of HCPD, MBPD, and Horry County Fire Rescue, investigators were able to find and recover the missing individual from the Intracoastal Waterway,” said Moskov. “The death of the individual remains under investigation by MBPD.”
