MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Some items sold at stores on Ocean Boulevard tested above the state’s legal limit for THC, according to the Myrtle Beach cheif of police Amy Prock.
Prock presented the findings to city council on Tuesday, saying eight out of the 11 items tested, which are sold at vape and smoke shops, tested positive. There were three separate tests conducted carried out by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, or SLED.
Police have not charged any of the business owners whose merchandise tested positive, but Prock says they will be notified.
Myrtle Beach police also used surveillance video during their investigation. They say during the sales process, some employees told customers their products would ‘get them high.’ Cheif Prock says this is concerning.
“As your chief of police, I feel as though it’s my responsibility to our community, to our city officials, to make our community aware of inconsistencies obviously in the testing,” Prock said.
Under South Carolina law, the amount of THC in a product cannot exceed 0.3 percent.
Myrtle Beach police will continue to investigate.
