CONWAY, SC (WBTW)- A new puppy was recently added to the Horry County Police Department’s bloodhound team.
Ruby is 11 weeks old and was brought in from Missouri to replace “Sadie”, who is getting ready to retire after nine years.
Currently the department has six female hounds. Each one spends the first year at its handler’s house to train and build a relationship. Corporal JD Green, with the bloodhound team, will look after Ruby and help her get ready for searches.
“I’m just learning her personality and just being ale to read her body language,” said Cpl. Green.
Sergeant Justin Miller says he’s been the handler for veteran “Shelly” who’s been on the team for eight and a half years.
“She’s got a lot of finds under her belt. A lot of people found because of her, a lot of missing people found because of her,” said Miller.
Ruby will spend the year training with Cpl. Miller and then be ready to officially join the team.
Sgt. Miller told News13 their team stays busy with frequent missing persons cases in Horry County throughout the year.
