CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – The United States Marine Corps. Marine Raiders marched more than 700 miles from a C-130 crash site in Mississippi carrying a remnant of the aircraft back home to Camp LeJeune. The aircraft crashed in Laflore County, Mississippi on July 10, 2017. Seven United States Marine Raiders and nine United States Marine Aviator crew members died.
The Marine Raider Memorial March made its way through our area including Pamplico and Johnsonville in Florence County. Participants marched through Conway, Myrtle Beach, and North Myrtle Beach in Horry County.
The march honors the Marines who died in the crash July, 2017. News13 caught up with them traveling through Conway on Monday. Once they reach Camp LeJeune, they will plant a tree in honor of the fallen Marines.
