A man who was reported missing in Horry County in December was found dead in North Carolina.

Around 5 p.m. on January 26, Columbus County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a wooded area in the 1800 block of Ten Mile Road in Tabor City in reference to a body being found, according to a press release from the CCSO. Upon arriving, the CCSO said they learned that decomposed remains were found by duck hunters.

The body was identified as Jeremiah Grissett, according to Michele Tatum, with the CCSO. The ME’s Office reportedly said the autopsy has not been completed and no cause of death is available yet.

In December, the Horry County Police Department asked for the public’s help in locating Grissett.

He reportedly had not had contact with his family since December 14, according to police. Grissett reportedly borrowed a vehicle, which was later found abandoned.
