NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW)- One little boy who recently received a heart transplant got the surprise of a lifetime today from North Myrtle Beach Police Officers and Firefighters. All thanks to the Make a Wish Foundation.
Like most 6 year olds, Bryson Jones loves “Paw Patrol” and especially loves North Myrtle Beach Police and Firefighters. On Thursday, he became Officer Jones.
Bryson Jones’ face lit up when he met some of his heroes. When he walked out of his house, he became one too.
In a police car, he went to the North Myrtle Beach Police and Fire station, where he got to try out some of their equipment and get behind the wheel of a fire truck.He also got to meet his new ride along partner, another Officer Jones.
At 5 years old, Bryson found out his heart was failing and he needed a new one. He spent a little more than 6 months at MUSC waiting, and stayed in good spirits. A week before his 6th birthday in June, Bryson got a new heart.
“It was a blessing. Last year this time, we didn’t know if he was going to be here or not and the fact that he is here and he’s well and running around playing not hooked up to an IV,” said Bryson’s mom, Salanda Jones.
Bryson’s mom said she can’t thank officers enough.
“When they came his little face was priceless. It lit up,” said Jones.
Bryson said he thanks God because, “He kept me.”
Bryson still receives monthly treatments at MUSC, and once his doctors clear him, Make a Wish will send him to Disney World. There are currently 8 other Make a Wish families in the Grand Strand.
