Maintenance crews worked on St. James Elementary Wednesday night, following News13’s story about mold concerns at the school.
Lisa Bourcier with Horry County Schools says ceiling tiles were changed out, cork boards were replaced and additional custodial work was done.
This comes after parents voiced concerns about mold found inside the school.
The school district said it had air quality tests done on January 21, and then sent parents an e-mail with the findings. The e-mail said in part that mold spores were not at the point where they would pose a health concern, as mold spores are virtually everywhere, including in the air and on surfaces, according to the e-mail.
The report also noted water-stained ceiling tiles in a conference room and 14 rooms. Some recommendations given were to replace the tiles, clean the HVAC units and in some areas, paint over the ceiling with antimicrobial paint.
