MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette made a few stops on the Grand Strand Monday.
Her first stop was to speak at the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce’s advocacy meeting. Evette touched on the education bill that is sitting in the South Carolina State Senate, and the possibility of teachers walking out on Wednesday.
“We’ve come up with the largest educational bill in the last 40 years, giving a lot of thought to our teachers,” said Evette. “Making sure that we get rid of regulations that handcuff them. Giving them a pair raise that would make them the highest paid in the Southeast. We’ve heard their cries , we think that they’re what we need to get our children into the 21st Century, and our governor supports them whole-heartedly. He’s hoping they won’t walk out. We’re working really hard. I encourage everybody to call their senators. That’s where it’s sitting right now.”
Evette also touched on the battle over I-73 funding between Horry County and local municipalities.
“You have great elected leaders down here,” said Evette. “I think if we get them all to the table, put all the information out there, anything can be resolved. We are stronger when we are united then we are when we are divided, so let’s get it and get it done. We have support on the federal level, you have support on the state level, you have support on the county level, we’ll iron it out and it will get handled.”
The Lieutenant Governor also spoke to the Rotary Club in Myrtle Beach and then toured Metglas Inc. in Conway.
