LORIS, SC (WBTW) – All the rain from Hurricane Florence has forced the Loris City Hall to shut down.
The city’s mayor says part of the roof collapsed because of so much water on the roof. This damage was noticed Tuesday, so the city spent the day moving its services in city hall.
The mayor says it’s unclear just how bad the damage is to city hall which was renovated about 30 years ago.
“We’re trying to assess the damage to find out whether we can either fix the building up or if it’s totally damaged,” said mayor Henry Nichols. “We don’t know at this time. What we know right now is it’s unsafe with electrical wires and the fact that the roof has caved in.”
City hall services have moved to Loris’s public safety building on Walnut Street.
The city says it expects those services to be fully operational by Thursday at 8 a.m.
