CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – Tuesday night’s Horry County Council meeting was the final one for chair Mark Lazarus.
He took over as chair in 2013. In his final “state of the county address,” Lazarus thanked many people throughout the county for their work during and after Hurricane Florence, as well as touting the county investing in the Interstate 73 project.
“I do believe, even though there are challenges ahead, under my leadership, we have left horry county a better place,” Lazarus said.
Grand Strand Republican Rep. Tom Rice, who was county chair before Lazarus, gave Lazarus the Order of the Silver Crescent award.
Johnny Gardner defeated Lazarus in a June Republican primary and takes over as county council chair on January 1.
