Law enforcement officials from 13 area agencies are attending a three-day human trafficking course the Horry County Sheriffs Office is sponsoring.

Horry County accounted for 23 percent of South Carolina’s reported cases of human trafficking in 2018.

More people often means more crime. Officials tell News13, heavy tourism in the area is a possible reason human trafficking is an issue on the Grand Strand.

The training is designed to help officials better investigate these cases. Law enforcement encourages you to contact your local agency if you see something you believe is suspicious.

The Coastal region of the South Carolina Human Trafficking Taskforce plans to have classes in March open to the community.
