Tomorrow is National Take Back Day and law enforcement agencies across the Carolinas are working with the Drug Enforcement Administration to collect unneeded prescription medications.
There will be prescription drop off locations throughout the country where people can bring medications they no longer need or are expired.
Officials with the Myrtle Beach Police Department say this is a “no questions asked” drop off.
The DEA reports it collected about 8.500 pounds of prescription drugs on this day last year in South Carolina alone.
The goal of National Take Back Day is both to collect prescription drugs from the community, and educate the public about the nationwide opioid epidemic.
“One big important thing people need to know is, a lot of times prescription drug abuse starts in the home with unused or old prescriptions,” Corporal Thomas Vest with the Myrtle Beach Police Department said. “This is just one step we can take along with our partners to try to prevent addiction.”
