Klockers and Remedies will stay open with some changes after being deemed a “public nuisance”

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WBTW)- Two Horry County bars that were close to being shut down for being a “public nuisance” will keep their doors open, but with some changes.

For the next two years Klockers and Remedies will close their doors at 1 a.m., have more security, and more lighting.

In June, the solicitors office filed a petition to close Klockers and Remedies. According to court documents, police responded to multiple calls for fights, disorderly conduct, public  and gunfire, and found a suspect with drugs. Solicitor Jimmy Richardson said they work with businesses to see if there’s something they can do to clean up their act, and in this case there was one common denominator.

“You never saw any problems with them until after one o’clock and I believe it’s worth a try to see if that wont calm down a bit,” said Richardson.

We asked what it would mean if another incident happens in the next two years

“It doesn’t neccessarilly mean it will violate the contract. We would look at each nuisance action that came up to see if that violated the contract,” said Richardson.

The solicitor said they rarely file nuisance acts, only about 5 a year and a third of those they’re able to reach an agreement. Richardson said 99 percent of the time it’s successful. He said it’s a case by case basis.

“If it’s just a flaw in the business model then that’s easy, and you can look at it and say I know you may not want to do this but this makes sense,” said Richardson.

There are some cases that are unsalvageable. The Koyote Saloon is a pending nuisance case after a deadly shooting this past May. Horry County police revoked their business license the day of the shooting and solicitor Jimmy Richardson said they are not going to try to work out an agreement with them. There will be a hearing in front of a judge who will decide if they will be shut down for up to a year.

News 13 reached out to Klockers and Remedies for a comment, and at the time of this report have yet to hear back.
