Hotel and business owners along the Grand Strand are offering discounted rates for rooms. food, and entertainment for Hurricane Florence victims to alleviate financial burdens caused from the storm and flood damage.

Some hotels are offering rates for as low as $35 a night, and as low as $300 a week.

“We even have some attractions making some crazy deals for anyone from North or South Carolina including Pirates Voyage, Wonder Works, Tracks, the Go Cart places.” said Jullie Ellis, with Visit Myrtle Beach.

One evacuee staying at the Viking Oceanfront Hotel, Joanne Romer says she initially evacuated to Georgia but now she’s bouncing around at Myrtle Beach hotels. She is unsure when she will be able to see her Conway home again.

“We bought our house in May, totally redid the floors and painting and almost finished… ready to make it home finally and meet the neighbors, and here we go.” said Romer.

General Manager at Best Western, Larry Rushings says they are housing several Grand Strand Medical Center workers and first responders at discounted rates, so that they can get to work just by driving across the street.

“Yes it would be nice to make the extra money but it’s more important to take care of the people around you because they are going to take care of you in the long run.” said Rushing.
