While other rivers in our area have crested, the Intracoastal Waterway is continuing to rise.
It was originally projected to crest some time Wednesday, but the latest forecast from the National Weather Service has it cresting between 22 and 23 feet on Thursday or Friday.
On Enterprise Road, road barriers have been put up blocking a flooded part of the road starting in front of the Silver Fox Landing neighborhood.
All afternoon, News13 watched people push past the barriers to drive around them, which is a big problem when the vehicle wakes flood more water into people’s homes.
Josh Smith’s home is one of those covered in feet of water.
“You lived in your house your whole life, there’s no way that you can get everything,” he said. “We got what we could, but still it’s my whole life in there.”
The aftermath of Florence is nothing like what his family saw two years ago.
“In Matthew we came close, maybe within a few inches of flooding, but we never took any water.”
In a scramble against time they grabbed what they could.
“Yesterday I went in there, my mother passed away when I was like three, and I have some dishes of hers and stuff that we forgot like some fine china, some stuff of my grandmother’s,” Smith said. “And luckily we got all that out.”
He and his family have to boat this week to check on their home.
“We encountered about three water moccasins I think around the house. We got fish in the house I guess from having the door open going in and out,” Smith said. “I mean who knows what’s got in.”
Smith said he doesn’t know if the house can be saved after the foundation looks to have been compromised.
