UPDATE: An inmate being transported back to J. Reuben Long from Conway hospital wrapped a seatbelt around his neck in a suicide, according to the coroner.

Tamara Willard, chief deputy coroner for Horry County, said Abed Naqshabandi, 28, had been taken to the hospital for a heel injury. The trip back to J. Reuben lasted for about 25 minutes, where he was discovered unresponsive upon arrival. He was pronounced dead at 11:40 a.m.

Willard confirmed his death was caused by “self-inflicted asphyxiation due to ligature compression.”  This is an ongoing investigation so no further information will be released at this time.
