LORIS, SC (WBTW) – 48 new, industrial jobs will be coming to Horry County in efforts to diversity the local economy.

Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation announced B&B Crane Service, a North Carolina industrial company, will soon take over a portion of the Loris Commerce Park and Ascott Valley in Conway.

“Our job is to diversify the the community; to try to separate ourselves from tourism,” Sandy Davis, CEO and President of Myrtle Beach’s Regional Economic Development Corporation, or MBREDC said.

“Tourism is great for the economy, but we also want to diversify the economy; bring better-paying, year-round jobs,” Davis said.

B&B Crane Service has promised to bring 48 new industrial jobs and invest $10 million into Horry County over the next five years.

They will look to hire people with skills in welding, CNC operators, supervisory and support service personnel. According to Davis, these jobs are rare in Horry County.

MBREDC will pay for the company’s land, however, B&B Crane Service will have to meet certain requirements before they are given that land. Davis says this is another way to try to prevent an unsuccessful company from coming to the area.

“If a company comes and they start out successful and then things turn for the business, we cannot foresee that. It’s like looking into a crystal ball. You never know what’s gonna happen, but we truly target the best companies,” Davis said.

Ultimately, Davis says bringing B&B Crane Service to Horry County is part of a bigger effort to introduce skilled labor and higher paying jobs to the area.

“We’re not gonna be one of those people who bring in 2,000 jobs. We’re going to be more in the 35 to 100 range, and that’s good because we don’t want to flood the market for skills that we do not have yet.” Davis said.

B&B Crane Service will likely not begin hiring employees until early next year. To check for job postings, click here.
