CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – Investors behind a controversial development on the South Strand did not show up to speak with Horry County leaders Tuesday night.
Last month, Horry County Council invited Nick Dou and Dan Liu of Founders Group International, which owns Indian Wells Golf Club in Garden City, to answer questions at Tuesday night’s meeting. The lawyers for the two investors were also invited. They didn’t go and council deferred action on the proposal to build 563 homes on the golf course.
Dozens of residents who have protested the development were once again at this meeting, with signs left outside of council chambers.
“You can’t pile people on top of one another and expect gravity to dispose of the water and sewage at an elevation of one to 10 feet above sea level,” said Kathy Jellison, who opposes the Indian Wells development. “We’re drowning in our own growth.”
Council chair Johnny Gardner says no one from council even heard back from the investors on the request to discuss issues, including if ongoing litigation could affect the proposed development.
