Human remains were found off a bike path in Murrells Inlet on Wednesday and a forensic anthropologist will be called in. 

According to Kenny Johnson, with the Georgetown County Coroner’s Office, the remains were located off a bike path about half a mile from the road in Murrells Inlet. 

Johnson confirmed to News13 on Thursday that the remains are human. He said no testing has been done on the bones so far and a forensic anthropologist will be called in. Johnson will meet with investigators on Friday to determine the investigation’s next steps. 

Deputies are investigating the discovery, according to Jason Lesley, with the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office. These remains were located in the woods across Highway 17 Business near Triangle Park. 

The GCSO received the call about the remains around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Lesley also said.
