MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW/WCBD) – A new study shows North Myrtle Beach is the seventh safest city in South Carolina.
Myrtle Beach ranked 26th out of 32, with Conway ranking 23rd. Florence was 31st out of the 32 cities listed.
As a whole, the state of South Carolina has a violent crime rate that exceeds the national average. It’s also ranked as the 47th safest state for property crime with one of the highest occurrences per capita.
The study was conducted by the National Council for Home Safety and Security.
If we take a closer look at North Myrtle Beach, there were 72 violent crimes in the city — this is roughly 4 crimes per 1,000 people. Looking at Myrtle Beach, there were 523 violent crimes, which is roughly 16 crimes per 1,000 people.
The study shows Florence with 487 violent crimes in the city, which is about 14 violent crimes per 1,000 people.
