MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW)- Horry Georgetown Tech campus in the Market Common area needs some upgrades and the city of Myrtle Beach is partnering with them to get the ball rolling.

City council approved to help with underground utilities along Pampas Drive, which will cost 2.2 million dollars, and HGTC will be able to make improvements

HGTC said they need to make some buildings more modern and the street scapes are outdated. The school wants to build sidewalks, but says they will do that once the underground utilities are built. The 2.2 million dollars for the underground utilities comes from Santee Cooper’s underground utility fund which is financed by 20 percent of the utility franchise fee paid for by Santee Cooper. HGTC has agreed to pay for the engineering cost which is about 700 thousand dollars. HGTC said they need these upgrades to better blend in with the dental clinic and international culinary institute.

“Lighting, signage, greenery, landscaping, benches, so that it becomes a really beautiful inviting campus,” said President, Dr. Marilyn Fore.

This is also apart of the city’s 10 year plan to create underground utilities through out the city.
