Horry Georgetown Technical College announced a $750,000 grant from the Office of Naval Research as well as an educational partnership with the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Atlantic.

The program will aim to fill gaps in the cybersecurity workforce with students from the Grand Strand.

HGTC does offer a cybersecurity certificate, but starting in the fall of 2020, a two-year cybersecurity associates degree will be available.

In addition to the changes for prospective students, businesses will be able to participate in cybersecurity training during the summer.

“We hope this will attract businesses in the area, that we will serve thier needs instead of them having to go somewhere else for their technology training,” President of HGTC Marilyn Fore said. “We have the assets to do that, we have the resources to do it, we have the talent to do it and we are training the students to be able to work in these places.”
