CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – Horry County Schools is looking to fill about 250 vacancies for the upcoming school year through their annual recruitment fair this weekend.
Lisa Bourcier with Horry County Schools said they rebranded their marketing materials and created a new recruitment video this year, to become more appealing to people in South Carolina and nearby states.
“We’re competing with every other school district across the United States for teachers, so we need to make sure we highlight all the special things we have to offer,” said Bourcier. She said right now, the school system has a seven percent turnover rate, but with this recruitment fair, and additional efforts to travel to more colleges and universities, they are hoping to decrease that amount.
Bourcier adds it’s especially important to make sure there is enough staff to keep up with the demand because of the five new schools in Horry County.
“We have an increase in staff needs for that, and we want to make sure we are full-staffed as much as possible,” said Bourcier. “That way we have the teachers and the amount of teacher ratio to our students.”
The recruitment fair is at Conway High School at 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 24.
Bourcier said there are 550 people registered, but they are accepting walk-ins for teacher candidates as well. The second part of the recruitment fair will consist of interviews and contingent job offers.
