CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – Horry County Schools will be closed Monday following the governor’s order to keep evacuations in place.

A post on the district’s Facebook page says all schools and the district office will be closed Monday and will remain closed until district leaders receive word from the governor’s office that schools can reopen.

“HCS staff and personnel who may be needed during the recovery process will be notified by their supervisor regarding an alternative work schedule,” the post reads.

Staff will continue to assess any damage to district facilities, monitor power outages, and work towards the re-opening of schools. Flooding in Horry County continues to be a concern over the next week as the rivers will rise to historic levels similar to Hurricane Matthew.

The district says it is working with county leaders and SCDOT regarding the potential road closures that could occur next week because of the flooding.
