Starting from 1978 to now, Horry County currently has 40 unsolved homicides. One of those cases is Charles Willis who was found dead in a home in Conway off Highway 701 near Gerald’s gas station.
Two of Willis’ children found him in a pool of blood in the home. Now two years later, Willis’ mother, Cecelia Glover says they aren’t giving up hope despite there being no leads or suspects in the case.
“My Grandson is saying ‘Nana, don’t go on the news because the people might kill you too’ They’re afraid but I don’t want to give up.” Glover said.
Glover says the last couple of months before he died, he became distant and would not let his brothers stay at the house for very long, in an effort she thinks to keep them from trouble.
“I feel in my heart he knew something was going to happen and he was going to save them.” Glover said.
Willis was found dead in a home in Conway off Highway 701 on December 10, 2016.
“His children found him on the floor in a puddle of blood. He was shot twice in the chest and once in the back of the head.” Willis said.
Horry County Detective Lt. Bonner says there are still no leads or suspects in this case.
“There were some narcotics involved, so those kinds of cases can lead to more violent crimes that are difficult to solve.” said Bonner. “t’s frustrating for our detectives. These detectives take these cases personally.”
Two years ago, a cold case squad was formed, made up of retired of police officers.
“Our cold case investigator will meet with them every month so its a whole fresh set of eyes, 8-10 people that will look at that same thing.”
