Horry County law enforcement agencies work to educate the community about human trafficking

The Horry County Sheriff’s Office and the South Carolina Coastal Region Task Force on Human Trafficking will host a public meeting this morning to educate the community about how they can get involved to end human trafficking on the Grand Strand.

The meeting will focus on community engagement through providing people with fliers and tools to recognize suspicious situations. One way officials will work to show the community signs of human trafficking, is through profiling both victims and traffickers.

News13 asked local agencies how they have started taking action against human trafficking prior to community meetings.

“Meeting with local businesses, hoteliers and informing them about the signs they may see from folks who come into their hotels to rent rooms and those tell tell signs of human trafficking so they can be more alert and aware of what may go on,” Brook Holden, spokesperson for the Horry County Sheriff’s Office said.

This morning’s meeting will be at the Ted C Collins Law Enforcement Center in Myrtle Beach at 10 A.M..
