CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – Horry County will end its prohibition on short-term rentals effective April 30.
Chairman Johnny Gardner said the county will abide by the governor’s guidance by restricting reservations from New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. “We have followed the Governor’s directions and will continue to do so,” Gardner said.
Horry County opened access to its beaches on April 21. Police Chief Joseph Hill said people are doing a good job of self-compliance on the beaches. Officers are continuing to “gently remind folks” about social distancing, Hill said.
Gardner announced the creation of a committee to help “get things started back” called the Welcome Back Horry County Committee. This will be for tourists, locals, workers, businesses, and everyone who makes things work. “We’re going to move forward in a safe but expeditious way,” Gardner said.
The committee will include representatives from the City of Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach, and Conway. Orton Bellamy will chair the committee. Members this time include Richard Carroll, John Cassidy, Rick Elliott, Johnny Gardner, Wayne Gray, Tyler Servant, and Lance Thompson.
Also in the weekly update, Sheriff Phillip Thompson said there are no new COVID exposures for J. Reuben Long inmates or staff. The one employee infected is still in quarantine.
Fire Rescue Chief Joseph Tanner said calls for people with coronavirus symptoms continue to drop. They are getting below 30 a week.
