HORRY COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – Horry County council voted Tuesday night to disapprove the controversial Red Bluff mine. Council voted 10-0 after hearing from multiple people against the project.
This isn’t the first time residents have opposed the mine. Last year, Red Bluff Rock, LLC, stopped its effort to open a mine in this area at the corner of Red Bluff Road and state highway 905.
The mining company tried once again, but people who live nearby say Red Bluff rock should dig somewhere else.
“It’s going to make what, right now, is a very quiet place, a very noisy place,” said Tammy Whiting, who has lived in the Red Bluff Village development for about two years.
Whiting told News13 a limestone mine about a quarter-mile from her neighborhood would disturb residents every day.
“They’re going to be doing wet mining, where they take equipment and drag it across the earth’s surface to pull up the limestone, which is going to cause a rumble and a lot of banging,” Whiting said.
