Officers with Surfside Beach Police and the Horry County Police Department’s bomb squad responded after an old military ordinance was found Thursday night.
Surfside Beach Police Chief Kenneth Hofmann tells us the device was found in a shed at a home in the 1100 block of South Dogwood Street. He says the person who found it called the police and fire departments.
Horry County Police Department’s bomb squad was called in and removed the device taking it to the south side of the town to be detonated.
According to a tweet from the Surfside Beach Police department that detonation happened at around 10:30 p.m. and assures residents there is no threat to the public.
