One person died after a crash on SC-31 at the 12 mile marker, near Robert Grissom Parkway in Horry County Friday night.
South Carolina Highway Patrol told us the crash involved a Horry County Sheriff’s Office SUV hitting a pedestrian. The SUV was traveling north on SC-31 when it hit the pedestrian. The pedestrian died at the scene.
The Horry County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Marcus Williamson. He was 35 years old and from Conway. He died on the scene of multiple traumatic injuries.
Horry County Fire Rescue, Horry County Sheriff Phillip Thompson and South Carolina Highway Patrol were all on scene.
Brooke Holden with the Horry County Sheriff’s Office identified the employee as Deputy Greg Maggart. He’s been placed on administrative duties while the Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) investigates. Internal affairs is also looking into the incident, per protocol.
It’s unclear whether Deputy Maggart could face charges.
