MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Hootie and the Blowfish and Dustin Johnson were inducted into the Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Fame Wednesday night.

Johnson, who attended Coastal Carolina University, is the world’s second-ranked golfer. The Blowfish hold the annual Monday After the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am tournament.

TPC Myrtle Beach is home to the Dustin Johnson Golf School and the fourth annual Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship, which will be played March 1-3.

Mark Bryan, Dean Felber, Darius Rucker and Jim “Soni” Sonefeld were Myrtle Beach golfers long before Hootie & the Blowfish became one of the biggest selling bands in music history.

The band’s fondness for the area led to the decision to host the annual Hootie & the Blowfish Monday After the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am tournament at Barefoot Resort’s Dye Club. This year’s event will be on April 15.

President and CEO of Golf Tourism Solutions, Bill Golden, said that the Monday After the Masters tournament has raised $7.2 million since it got its start.

“I don’t think we ever could’ve predicted what we could’ve done through this event with them, and what they do on their own, certainly is phenomenal,” said Golden.

He said those proceeds go to both Hootie and Johnson’s foundations to support the South Carolina Junior Golf Association and other charities.

“Having so much to do with South Carolina Junior Golf Association and watching guys like Dustin, kids, and a bunch of the guys that are coming through from being on the PGA Tour know that the number one golfer in the world came through a program we support,” said Darius Rucker, the lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish.
