The South Carolina Highway Patrol says an accident killed one person in Carolina Forest on Monday evening.

LCpl. David Jones, spokesman for the department, says the accident happened around 5:45 p.m. on Carolina Forest Boulevard in front of Canterbury Apartments.

Jones says a Chevrolet Equinox crossed the center of the road and struck a Jeep Cherokee head-on.

Jones says the driver of the Chevrolet was transported to Conway Medical Center, where they later died from their injuries. The Horry County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Rachel Mullen, 19, of Myrtle Beach.

The driver of the Jeep was also taken to an area hospital, where their condition is unknown.

Both people involved in the accident were wearing seatbelts, according to Jones.

The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
