On Wednesday, a group of people protested a puppy boutique expected to open in Surfside Beach.
The group held signs that said “puppy mills = sick dogs” and “don’t fund puppy mill misery” as cars passed by.
Rocky Valley Kennels Puppy Boutique is set to open in Surfside Beach and will be the second shop for the Tennessee-based group.
“We are trying to spread the message and educate the community that they should be purchasing puppies from reputable breeders and doing their homework as well as considering adoption from our local shelters,” said Suzanne Roman, a protest organizer.
“We have shelters and rescues all over South Carolina that are full of adoptable animals in need of a loving home,” said Jessica Wnuk, the Executive Director for the Grand Strand Humane Society. “There are still animals being euthanized on a daily basis across the state of South Carolina, and we do not need to be importing dogs from another state where we already have a problem here.”
News 13 previously reached out to the Tennessee Better Business Bureau where the puppy boutique is based, and they did not have any complaints. The owner declined to comment.
