The Horry County Solid Waste Authority is hosting a “Grinding of the Greens” event to recycle used Christmas trees.

The SWA is collecting the trees to be turning into free landscaping mulch for citizens of the county. Simply remove all of your lights, decorations, garland, and tinsel before bringing your tree to an SWA Recycling and Convenience Center.

No wreaths though. This is only for natural trees.

City residents in Myrtle Beach, Conway, Surfside Beach, Loris, and Aynor may place their trees on the street for curbside pickup.

Myrtle Beach residents may also bring their trees to 10th Avenue North, behind Myrtle Waves.

Residents in North Myrtle Beach can bring their trees to the following locations:

  • Cherry Grove – The public parking lot at Ocean Boulevard and Shorehaven Drive.
  • Crescent Beach – The parking lot across from the J. Bryan Floyd Community Center at 1030 Possom Trot Road.
  • Ocean Drive – The public parking lot on the northeast side of Main Street, between Ocean Boulevard and Hillside Drive.
  • Windy Hill – The public parking lot at 38th Avenue South and Seaview Street.

If you want to get mulch you are asked to bring your own container for it. Mulch will be available to all citizens while supplies last.

The “Grinding of the Greens” will go until January 29.
