MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The emergency room of Grand Strand Medical Center closed Wednesday morning in anticipation of Hurricane Florence’s arrival.
A press release from Julie Kopnicky Tyre, director of marketing and public relations, says the hospital is following Governor Henry McMaster’s orders.
“In compliance with Governor McMaster’s medical evacuation order and for the safety of our patients and staff, the ER at Grand Strand Medical Center temporarily closed today at 8 am,” writes Tyre.
“In light of the mandatory medical evacuation, we are required to close our emergency room,” said Dr. Andrew Schwartz, Chief Medical Officer for Grand Strand Health. “We urge our community to be safe and cautious during this time. We will reopen as quickly as we possibly can following the storm.”
