The Grand Strand Humane Society received donations on Tuesday as part of “Giving Tuesday.”

Giving Tuesday is “a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration,” according to givingtuesday.org.

This year, the GSHS organized a social media effort because Facebook and PayPal partnered to match donations made up to about $7 millions beginning at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. The GSHS received more than $23,000 in about three hours. Those who work there say the money will help many animals. 

“Provide food and medical and preventative care for the animals in the facility and do things like treat heartworm diseases in dogs, help send off blood work for cats that might need it, and help with behavioral training,” said Jess Wnuk, the shelter’s executive director.
