A Midway Fire Rescue firefighter/EMT has died after being involved in a crash.

“It is with extreme sadness that Midway Fire Rescue informs you that Firefighter/EMT Daniel Roy passed away this afternoon as a result of injuries sustained in a vehicle crash on March 16, 2019,” a press release from MFR said. “We ask you to continue to keep the members of the Roy Family, and the members of Midway Fire Rescue in your thoughts and prayers.”

Roy, 29, was a member of the “C shift” and was born in McDonough, Georgia, the release also said. He served with MFR for two years and previously worked for the Henry County Fire Department.

“We extend our sincere thanks to the Doctors, Nurses, and Staff at Grand Strand Medical Center for their compassionate and professional care,” the release also said.

“The Roy Family and our organization appreciates the outpouring of support from the members and staffs of Midway Fire Rescue, Horry County Fire Rescue, Myrtle Beach Fire Department, North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue, Conway Fire Department, Surfside Beach Fire Department, Murrells Inlet-Garden City Fire District, Georgetown County Fire/EMS Department, Georgetown City Fire Department, and the countless others who supported the family and our collective membership during this past week.”

Roy had been with the department for just over two years, according to a GoFundMe page made to help his family. He was training to become a paramedic and would have graduated from paramedic school in May.

As of 1:30 p.m. Monday, the GoFundMe page has raised over $10,000.
