Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office warns residents of telemarketer scam

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – Georgetown County Sheriff Lane Cribb has asked residents to exercise caution when receiving phone calls requesting donations on behalf of the South Carolina Sheriffs’ Association.  
 
The department said in a press release that the Sheriffs’ Association operates a robust Honorary Membership Program but it does not solicit via telemarketing.

The sheriff’s office said if you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be calling on behalf of the South Carolina Sheriffs’ Association, to know that it is fraudulent and hang up. They also ask that you share this message with friends and family members to ensure no one falls victim to a scam.
