The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office hosted an active shooter training session on Tuesday for local first responders.
The training session happened at Georgetown High School. Members from the sheriff’s office, local police departments, and local fire departments participated in the training.
The goal of the training is to coordinate with local agencies on how to respond in an active shooter situation and what to do after the situation is under control.
Alan Walters, Executive Director of Safety and Risk Management for Georgetown County Schools, says “law enforcement still has the primary responsibility for neutralizing the threat, but now we’re going to take it a step farther and integrate fire and ems, how we get people in, render aid, get people out of the building.”
Tuesdsay’s exercise is part of four days of training that will happen this month at Georgetown High School.
