As some areas begin to remove sandbags, Georgetown County officials are asking residents not to dump them on the beach.
According to Jackie R. Broach-Akers, the public information officer for the county, the county’s sandbags “were filled with regular dirt.” Sandbags that were not touched by flood waters can be used as fill dirt or dumped at a location of the owner’s choosing, as long as bags are not dumped at the beach. Empty bags can also be saved for future use.
Sandbags that have been touched by floodwaters can be disposed of at the Georgetown County Landfill, Broach-Akers also says. These bags will not be accepted at recycling centers.
