WAMPEE AREA, SC (WBTW) – One person is dead after a motorcycle crash in the Wampee area of Horry County.
The Horry County Coroner’s Office identified the person who died as Samuel Willingham, 58, of Athens, Georgia. Willingham was visiting the North Myrtle Beach area with family and friends.
The crash happened at 10:29 p.m. on Thursday on the eastbound entrance ramp to SC Highway 22 from SC Highway 90, according to LCPL. Matt Southern with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
A motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the crash.
The rider was traveling eastbound on a 2000 Yamaha motorcycle on the entrance ramp to SC Highway 22 from SC Highway 90, ran off the right side of the road and down an embankment, resulting in fatal injuries to the rider, Southern said.
Willingham was not wearing a helmet, Southern said.
The crash remains under investigation.
