The Myrtle Beach and Horry County Police and Fire Departments teamed up with the Boys and Girls Club of the Grand Strand for some flag football fun.
The exhibition tournament was held Saturday at Doug Shaw Stadium. Each team had members of their respective departments playing alongside members of the Boys and Girls Club. Members of Coastal Carolina’s football team coached each of the four teams.
The goal of the event was to foster better relationships between community servants and the youth of the community. “It’s great for them to interact and see them as equals, as human beings as people they can trust.” said Horry County Chairman, Mark Lazarus.
The sentiment was echoed by Myrtle Beach Councilman, Mike Lowder. “To have them be out on the field with the law enforcement and the fire department is a great opportunity for them to see them in another aspect, in another light, than in a uniform.”
In the final match Myrtle Beach Police won over Horry County Fire Rescue.
Donations from the event went to help send kids from the Boys and Girls Club to summer camps this year.
