HORRY COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – A food ministry aiding at least 200 Grand Strand families says it needs help meeting a growing demand.
New Beginnings food ministry helps organize a monthly food drive with churches, businesses and other groups at Church of the Resurrection on U.S. Highway 17 Bypass near Surfside Beach.
The food ministry’s chair says nearly ten times as many families get help compared to when it started seven years ago, so more food and volunteers are needed.
“The demand has grown exponentially just in the last year,” said Larry Nowak, the chair of New Beginnings Food Ministry. “This month here, we will distribute just over 20,000 pounds of food in this three-hour period.”
The food drive is held every third Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
