Fire crews respond to hazmat situation at Riptide Motel

Myrtle Beach Fire crews and Myrtle Beach Police officers responded to a hazmat situation.

Captain Joey Crosby, with the Myrtle Beach Police Department, says in a press release officers responded to the Riptide Motel at 2806 N. Ocean Boulevard for a suspicious package.

“Officers seized an envelope which contained a small amount of a powder type substance. The substance was transported to the police department as evidence, and out of an abundance of caution, the Myrtle Beach Fire Department Hazmat team was called to examine the substance. MBFD Hazmat team has deemed the substance as safe, and there is no threat to the public or officers,” Crosby also says.
