F-16 military plane makes emergency landing at MYR

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – An F-16 military plane made an emergency landing Thursday morning at the Myrtle Beach International Airport.

Kirk Lovell, a spokesperson with the airport, said it is unclear if the emergency is related to any military aircraft maneuvers happening this week.

The emergency landing happened around 11 a.m. There were no issues around the landing, Lovell said. Commercial flights at the airport were not affected by the landing, Lovell said.

The F-16 is a single-engine supersonic multirole fighter aircraft originally developed by General Dynamics (now Lockheed Martin). It was designed as a day-fighter but evolved into a successful all-weather multirole aircraft.

The Myrtle Beach Fire Department was initially called to the scene, but the call was canceled by the airport.

New13 is on the way to the scene and will provide updates as they become available.
