Memorial Day weekend is here and with it comes changes to traffic patterns along the Grand Strand.
Traffic on Ocean Boulevard will only flow southbound as the northbound lane will be for emergency vehicles only. Also on the Boulevard, no golf carts or mopeds are permitted from 8 P.M. until 8 A.M this weekend. If you wish to travel down Ocean Boulevard, you must enter it south of 29th Avenue N.
The traffic loop also returns this year.
Officials with the City of Myrtle Beach tell News13, it will be enforced 10 P.M. until 2 A.M. and on an as needed basis.
The 23-mile pattern encompasses portions of Harrelson Boulevard, Ocean Boulevard, S Kings Highway, Carolina Bays, Grissom Parkway, Highway 17 Bypass, and 29th Avenue N.
Here are some intersections to avoid if you don’t want to use the loop:
Don’t turn east on 29th Avenue N at the Highway 17 Bypass Intersection, or Kings Highway Intersection.
Additionally, all traffic on Kings Highway and Harrelson will be diverted west on Kings Highway into the traffic pattern.
Officials with the Myrtle Beach Police Department urge those who are staying on Ocean Boulevard to park on the west side of the street.
MBPD has a 24-hour information line open now, you can reach that at 843-918-INFO.
