MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – This year’s Carolina Country Music Festival is officially underway, and with a crowd of 30,000 people expected to attend the event, Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue is making some changes to help improve their EMS plan.

Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue now has six crews and 12 people manning CCMF during the day, and an additional crew with two extra people at night, compared to last year’s two crews and 10 people. They’ve also made changes like blocking off lanes at the edges of the venue so they can access the crowds easily if need be.

So far, officials say there have been no life-threatening medical emergencies at this year’s festival, and in years past, the most common medical problem they see is people passing out after forgetting to drink water all day. Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue is anticipating a similar trend this year.

“It usually ramps up at night when you have the main acts get on and you have all those crowds of people up at the front. That’s when things get a little hairier,” says Lt. Jonathan Evans of Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue.

They’re urging those attending the festival this year to remember to stay hydrated and to bring any medications with you, including things like ibuprofen, because crews won’t be carrying any at the festival.

“Have a good time, but take care of your body as well,” says Lt. Evans. “It’s very important. Help us help you by taking care of yourself first.”
